Privacy Policy
Last updated May 21, 2026
ScreenMindr is a children's product. We treat that as a serious responsibility — in what we collect, what we store, and what we will never do with it. This policy explains, in plain English, what data we handle and why.
Who we are
"ScreenMindr," "we," "us," and "our" refer to ScreenMindr, LLC, the company that operates the ScreenMindr family screen-time service (the "Service"), including our mobile applications, parent dashboard, and website at screenmindr.com.
Questions about this policy or your data? Email bob@screenmindr.com.
What we collect
From parents
- Account information: your name and email address, used to sign in and to contact you about your account.
- Payment information: processed by our payment provider. We receive a transaction reference and the last four digits of the card; we do not store full card details on our servers.
- Account preferences: the rules you configure, including children added, tasks created, reward windows, and which apps are restricted.
- Communications: if you email us, we keep that thread to respond and to improve the Service.
From children
- First name or nickname chosen by the parent — used to address the child in the app.
- Age — used to tailor task suggestions and to comply with children's-privacy laws.
- Device identifier — a per-install identifier used to enforce screen-time restrictions on the correct device.
- Evidence photos submitted by the child to prove a task was completed.
- Task completion records — which tasks were attempted, started, completed, or skipped.
- App-usage data needed for enforcement — which restricted apps were opened and when, used solely to apply your screen-time rules. We do not log the content of those apps.
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photo library, microphone, or any other sensor data from children beyond what's listed above.
How we use this information
- Account management: creating, securing, and supporting your account.
- App functionality: running the task loop, applying restrictions, surfacing evidence for your approval, delivering reward windows.
- Billing: processing your subscription and preventing fraud.
- Service improvement: understanding aggregated usage so we can make the product better. We use anonymized, aggregated metrics; we do not profile individual children.
- Safety and security: detecting abuse, debugging issues, and protecting accounts.
We do not use any of this data for advertising. We do not sell it. We do not share it with data brokers. Our subscription is the entire business model.
Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers ("subprocessors") strictly necessary to operate ScreenMindr, and only what they need to do their job. Our current subprocessors are:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud hosting, storage, and compute. Account and child profile data, task completion records, and evidence photos are stored in AWS infrastructure in the United States.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivering approval alerts and task reminders to parent and child devices. We send Firebase only the device push token and the contents of the notification; no other account or task data is shared.
- Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES) — sending account, billing, and support emails to parents.
ScreenMindr does not currently process payments. The Service is in private beta and is not yet sold to consumers. When subscriptions become available at public launch we expect to use Stripe as our payment processor; this Privacy Policy will be updated at that time with the precise data flow, and we will email all existing account holders before any payment-related data is collected.
Each subprocessor above is bound by contract to use your data only for the service they provide to us, to keep it secure, and to delete it on our instruction. We update this list as our infrastructure changes.
We may also disclose information if required by law (e.g., a valid court order) or to protect against fraud or imminent harm. We will tell you if we receive such a request, unless legally prohibited.
Data retention
- Evidence photos are deleted automatically once you approve or reject the submission, or after 30 days — whichever comes first.
- Task completion records are kept for as long as your account is active so you can see history; deleted with the account.
- Account data is kept until you ask us to delete it or close your account.
- Billing records are kept for as long as required by tax and accounting law.
Children's privacy & COPPA
ScreenMindr is designed to be set up and managed by a parent or legal guardian. Children do not create their own accounts and cannot use the Service without parental setup.
During the current private beta, ScreenMindr does not yet collect any information from children — the app is being trialled with parents only, and the family-side features that involve a child's device are not yet enrolled with beta participants. The mechanisms below describe how we will handle children's information once the family-side product is enabled for beta households and, ultimately, at public launch.
- Verifiable parental consent (at public launch): before any data is collected from a child, the parent will create and confirm a paid account using a credit or debit card. Successfully charging a payment card associated with the account holder is one of the verification methods explicitly permitted under the FTC's COPPA Rule. We will update this Policy with the precise mechanism in use, and notify existing account holders, at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
- Verifiable parental consent (during beta, if children are enrolled): for any beta household where a child's device is enrolled before public launch, we will obtain consent through a signed beta participation agreement returned by email together with identity verification of the parent. We retain a copy of the signed agreement.
- Parent right to review: at any time, a parent can see exactly what we have collected about their child by emailing bob@screenmindr.com.
- Parent right to delete: a parent can delete a child's profile or the entire account at any time. We will remove the data from our active systems promptly and from backups within 90 days.
- No behavioral advertising to children: we do not show ads to children. We do not allow third parties to use children's data for ad targeting.
- No social or persistent identifiers are collected beyond what is necessary to enforce restrictions on the assigned device.
- Inquiries: COPPA-specific questions go to bob@screenmindr.com. See also our COPPA Notice.
Security
We protect your data using industry-standard practices:
- Encryption in transit using TLS 1.2+ for all client-server traffic.
- Encryption at rest for stored data, including evidence photos.
- Role-based access controls; only the engineers who need access to a given system have it, and access is logged.
- No plaintext storage of credentials or evidence photos.
- Regular dependency and infrastructure security reviews.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a breach that affects your data, we will notify you promptly and explain what happened, what we know about the impact, and what we're doing about it.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- Access the data we hold about you and your children.
- Correct anything that's inaccurate.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Object to certain processing or withdraw consent where we rely on it.
Email bob@screenmindr.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively — those rights apply, and the same email is the way to exercise them.
International transfers
Our application infrastructure is hosted on AWS in the United States. If you are outside the United States, your data is transferred there to deliver the Service. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards to make those transfers compliant with local data-protection law.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes — changes that affect what we collect, how we use it, or who we share it with — we will email account holders before the changes take effect. Non-material updates (clarifications, typos, new subprocessors in the same category) will be published here with an updated date at the top.
